Summary:

  • Death Stranding 2 will arrive on PS5 exclusively this summer, and its arrival on other platforms (Xbox and PC) is not confirmed yet.
  • New ports are not unlikely as Kojima Productions owns the IP and has previous multi-platform collaborators.

Death Stranding 2 release is officially announced as an exclusive PlayStation 5 release this summer. The launch was announced by Kojima Productions at an event in March 2025 with Xbox and PC versions left unconfirmed. People want to know what secrets the sequel of the game, exclusive to the PS5, holds!

PS5 Exclusive Release Plan

Death Stranding 2 Will It Release on PC, Xbox, or Game Pass

The publishing deal that Sony has set up means that Death Stranding 2 will not be coming to other platforms upon first release. The company was earlier to release the original publication of the Death Stranding in 2019 prior to releases by other platforms.

This exclusivity-based agreement is the reason as to why there have been no Xbox or PC announcements so far. But recent events gave the Death Stranding intellectual property rights to Kojima Productions.

In addition, the follow-up will need the PC capabilities and hardware of the PS5 to perform at its best and present an impressive picture. Also, newer technology advancements to the original require next-gen console capabilities as opposed to the old machines.

The PS4, however, cannot handle these upgraded features because of architecture limitations a decade old. Hence, PS5 is the only officially validated platform that would allow providing a targeted experience.

Moreover, 505 Games has in the past released non-PlayStation ports of Death Stranding in several distribution platforms. As an example, this publisher dealt with PC and Xbox releases of the Director Cut version in the past.

As a result, their role implies possible further multi-platform releases, when Sony exclusivity deal ends. In general, the collaboration of Kojima Productions and 505 Games enhances the opportunities of wider platform distribution.

Possibilities of Future Platforms

The Death Stranding 2 release date of the other platforms is still under question but historically set. The initial game was released in November 2019 on PS4 and then on PC in July 2020.

The Director Cut later came on Xbox Series X|S in November 2024, following several postponements. The same may imply that Xbox and PC versions may someday come into being after a long wait.

Furthermore, having the IP means greater freedom of choice with regards to future platforms with Kojima Productions owning it. Sony used to exercise more authority over publishing rights than it is now in all platforms and regions. The developer is now able to contract independent publishing agreements on non-PlayStation releases. Such ownership can also reduce exclusivity periods of future platform releases.

Meanwhile, Xbox owners will get to see the carnage soon when Kojima launches his new horror work OD, which is created with Xbox Game Studios. This partnership with filmmaker Jordan Peele will allow Xbox users to gain exclusive exposure to new Kojima content.

The strike has however delayed production of the project which has stalled its projection through the 2024 SAG-AFTRA strike. The horror video game is a strategic alliance of Xbox with the famous developer.

Conclusion

Death Stranding 2 Will It Release on PC, Xbox, or Game Pass

As of now, the release of Death Stranding 2 is fixed as a PS5 exclusive game, with no information regarding other platforms. But the previous history has given hints that the game will reach PC and Xbox players after its exclusivity expires at Sony. Keep an eye out, fans, as the next updates could unveil the broader availability of Kojima’s next big thing!
