In an attempt to develop a “Nordic powerhouse in Esports”, Omaken Sports has acquired Danish organization Heroic. The amount paid by Omaken is undisclosed, with the company having only been established in 2020 by Norwegian streamer Joachim “Noobwork” Haraldsen.

It was with the help of Noobwork that Omaken Sports was able to raise some €15m of investment, which was to be used to “buy into Esports”. This ultimately led to the purchase of Heroic. Following the announcement, both Heroic and Omaken will compete under the banner of the Heroic brand.

What Heroic Has Had to Say on the Deal

Speaking on the news, former Heroic CEO, Erik Askered stated that: “We’re incredibly excited to continue the Heroic journey in the Omaken Sports group, and [are] proud to have been acquired by them. We’ve long wanted to expand and have felt that the organisation and brand has so much more potential, and finally we are able to execute that and become a multi-game organisation among other things. We’re looking forward to sharing news to the community on the upcoming expansions!” Askered will now switch his role to Chief Growth Officer.

What the Announcement Means for Current Heroic Players

Back in 2018, Heroic was sold to Serenades Global Inc by RFRSH Entertainment, a deal that was made under rules set by the World Esports Association (WESA). Serenades already owned leading Esports organization, Astralis, along with Esports event organizer, BLAST. Heroic’s CS:GO captain Casper “cadiaN” Møller has had his say on the future of the team, stating that:

“I am super excited about our new future. With Omaken acquiring Heroic, we will have some really strong investors in the project that are hungry to develop us and the esports scene. The vision of a Scandinavian powerhouse is super exciting to be a part of, and to be part of it from the start is something me and my teammates are incredibly proud of. I think this is a big applause to the work the organisation and team has done throughout the years. We are not aiming at mediocrity.”

There is certainly room for a major name to take over in the Nordic region, with Ninjas in Pyjamas and Astralis being the biggest organizations in the region at present.
