Jesper “JW” Wecksell is seemingly on the verge of becoming the latest CS:GO professional to make the move to VALORANT. Regarded as one of the best Counter-Strike players of all time, JW was benched by Fnatic earlier this week, putting his future up in the air.

JW will almost certainly now depart Fnatic, with the Swedish veteran having played for the British organization between 2013-2016.The three-time major winner played for GODSENT for six months, before returning to Fnatic in February 2017. However, with the team having struggled to live up to expectations, Fnatic has made roster changes.

What JW has said on his future

Speaking on his future, JW stated that he will ‘take time to reflect on what he could have done differently and “bring that with me to whatever is next in life, be it CS, VALORANT, or esports in general.”

JW’s style of play would certainly suit the tactical shooter title from Riot Games, while organizations would be lining up around the block to acquire his services. Fnatic are left with just three active players following the departure of JW and benching of in-game leader Maikil “Golden” Selim. However, with superstars Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson and Ludwig “Brollan” Brolin remaining on board, Fnatic still has a good core.

Why JW Is held in such high regard within the CS:GO Community

With Fnatic, JW broke all kinds of records, many which appeared unlikely given the dominance of Astralis some years ago. The relationship between JW and KRIMZ was crucial to Fnatic, with the duo having put pen to paper on new three-year contracts in 2019. With the CS:GO scene being packed with free agents, the likelihood of JW joining another team here would appear slim to none.

JW would arguably be the standout player to switch from CS:GO to VALORANT to date, joining the likes of DaZeD, Steel and Hiko in doing so. It remains to be seen as to whether this comes to fruition, with coaching or analyst roles within CS:GO also being an option.
