Valve Refines Cache and Expands Map Scripting in New CS2 Update

Valve has released another Counter-Strike 2 update focused on technical fixes, map improvements and new tools for community creators.

The patch addresses a grenade interaction that allowed projectiles to pass through map geometry in certain situations. It also delivers another round of changes for Cache following the map’s return, while Shelter has been updated to its latest Steam Workshop version.

The largest part of the update is aimed at mapmakers and custom mode developers. Valve has expanded CS2’s scripting system with new events and functions covering weapons, grenades, bomb interactions and player equipment.

Grenade Bug Fixed Across CS2

The main general gameplay correction targets grenades incorrectly passing through parts of the environment. Valve has not listed every location affected, suggesting that the problem was connected to the broader interaction between projectiles and map geometry rather than one specific position.

Grenade consistency is particularly important in Counter-Strike. Smoke, flashbang, incendiary and HE grenade lineups can decide entire rounds, especially when teams rely on rehearsed utility during executes or retakes.

The gameplay section of the update is relatively small:

  • Grenades should no longer pass through map geometry in specific situations
  • No weapon balance changes were included
  • No major economy or movement adjustments were announced

The patch is therefore unlikely to change the competitive Meta directly. Its value comes from reducing unpredictable behaviour that can interfere with established lineups and tactical preparation.

Cache Receives Another Round of Improvements

Valve continues to polish Cache after bringing the popular map back into Counter-Strike 2. The latest update fixes several visual and collision-related problems across the environment.

The developers corrected gaps in the map, improved collision in multiple locations and removed flickering from certain objects. These changes should reduce situations where players can see through unintended openings, become caught on geometry or experience distracting visual issues.

Valve also removed a boost position near Outside A. The official notes do not explain whether the position provided excessive information, created an unintended angle or relied on problematic collision. Its removal indicates that Valve considered it unsuitable for the current version of Cache.

The Cache changes include:

  • Multiple gaps closed across the map
  • Collision improved in several positions
  • Flickering objects corrected
  • The Outside A boost position removed

The update shows that Cache remains an active work in progress rather than a finished addition to the CS2 map pool.

Further revisions are likely as players discover new boosts, clipping problems and visibility issues through regular matchmaking and community testing.

Shelter Updated From the Steam Workshop

Shelter has also been updated to its latest Steam Workshop version. Valve did not provide a detailed list of the individual changes included in that revision.

Updating Workshop maps through official patches allows their creators to continue correcting problems without requiring Valve to rebuild every part of the location internally. It also highlights the growing importance of community-created content within CS2.

Mapmakers Receive More Powerful Scripting Tools

The most extensive changes affect CS2’s map scripting system. Valve has added new events that allow creators to track when weapons are picked up, dropped or spawned.

Scripts can now react more precisely to grenade and bomb activity. Creators receive additional ways to detect explosions and access information about players planting or defusing the bomb.

New functions also make it possible to check whether a player has a defuse kit. This could support custom scenarios that respond differently depending on equipment, objectives or player actions.

These additions may be especially useful for:

  • Custom training maps that monitor utility and bomb interactions
  • Community game modes built around weapon pickups
  • Scenario maps that react to planting and defusing events
  • More complex scripted missions and practice environments

Valve also fixed an issue that prevented Instance.RegisterCheatCommand from functioning correctly after scripts were reloaded. The bounces parameter for the Instance.OnGrenadeBounce event has been marked as deprecated, meaning creators should prepare to use newer alternatives in future projects.

Why the Scripting Changes Matter

The update does not introduce a new official mode, weapon or competitive feature. However, expanding scripting support can have a wider long-term impact on the game.

Counter-Strike’s community has historically created aim trainers, surf maps, retake servers, movement challenges and entirely new game modes. Better scripting tools allow developers to build more detailed systems without relying on limited workarounds.

Valve’s additions could improve how custom maps track objectives, equipment and player behaviour. They may also make it easier to create training tools that provide immediate feedback after grenade throws or bomb interactions.

The practical impact will depend on how quickly creators adopt the new functions. Players may not notice the scripting changes immediately, but future Workshop releases could use them to deliver more sophisticated experiences.

Assessment

This CS2 update is primarily a maintenance and development patch. Competitive players receive a useful grenade fix and further Cache improvements, but no balance changes that immediately reshape professional play or matchmaking.

Cache remains the main point of interest for regular players. Closing gaps, improving collision and removing an unwanted boost should make the map more reliable as Valve continues preparing it for wider competitive use.

The scripting expansion may be the update’s most important long-term element. Community maps and custom modes have always been central to Counter-Strike, and more detailed development tools can support the next generation of training maps, server modes and experimental experiences.
