CS2 Shanghai Major 2024 UPDATE: Venues, Prizes, Dates

Gear up, Counter-Strike enthusiasts! The Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 has unveiled the details about the tournament: an action-packed schedule, three grand venues to feature live audiences, and a massive prize pool for the outstanding teams.

The first Counter-Strike Major to be held in Asia promises to end the 2024 tournament season with a glorious finale. The event will kick off in the end of November and has set the community abuzz. What about this tournament makes it so anticipated?

CS2 Shanghai Major Event Overview 

From November 30 to December 15, 2024, 24 teams will enter the tournament divided into three stages: the opening stage, the eliminations stage and the playoff stage. The initial stages and the playoffs will be held in two different venues, and a $1,250,000 prize pool awaits the competition winners.

The Flow of Battle: Tournament Schedule 

From the event’s commencement on November 30, 16 out of the total 24 teams will participate in the Opening Stage and compete in a Swiss-system format with Bo3 and Bo1 matches until December 4. The top eight teams will advance to the Eliminations, where eight other pre-qualified teams await them. 

In the Elimination Stage which runs from December 5 to December 8, another Swiss-system format will determine which teams can make it to the Playoffs. Again, only the top eight teams will be able to move forward. 

In the 3-day Playoff Stage starting on December 12, the remaining teams will battle it out in a single-bracket elimination and aim to win Bo3 matches. In the grand finals taking place on December 15, the champion will be crowned.

Road to Shanghai: Qualifying Teams

To qualify for the Shanghai Major, the competing teams must first go through the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) events and prove their worth. The teams to secure their spots in the Elimination and Opening stages depend on their performance in these November 11-24 qualifiers. 

There are 14 slots waiting for the European RMR teams, 8 of which are guaranteed passes to the Elimination Stage. 7 Opening Stage slots are for teams from the Americas, while 3 are to be claimed by challengers from the Asia-Pacific RMRs. 

While The World Watches: Venue Details

For the second time in Major history, all stages of the Shanghai Major will invite audiences to be part of the event. Perfect World, the organizer of the tournament, announced that fans can attend every stage of the competition and watch the intense showdowns unfold live inside the venues. 

Catch all the action in person in Shanghai, starting with the initial stages (Opening and Eliminations) at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center in Pudong. After a few days of intermission, you can witness the Playoff Stage kick off at the SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center. Boasting a seating capacity of more than 10,000 spectators, the Playoffs venue is perfect for the event’s thrilling climax.

Specific details about the event broadcast have not yet been released, but you can expect an English broadcast on Twitch streaming channels. Regional language streams may also be available for fans around the world.
