Pearl Abyss has delayed Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown, the first major expansion for its open-world action RPG.
The DLC was originally scheduled to launch October 15, but the studio says it needs additional development time to improve stability and polish.
The new release date is October 29, 2026.
That means the delay is relatively short at exactly two weeks, although the decision comes unusually close to the original launch date.
Pearl Abyss Wants More Time for Polish
The developer says work on Charting the Unknown is continuing at full speed but that additional time became necessary during final development.
Pearl Abyss apologized to players who had been waiting for the expansion and said the extra two weeks will be used to deliver a more stable and polished experience.
The studio has not indicated that the delay is connected to a major design change.
For now, all previously announced major features still appear to be part of the expansion.
The New Date Puts It Against Phantom Blade Zero
The delay creates a new scheduling problem.
Charting the Unknown will now launch on the same day as Phantom Blade Zero, one of October’s most anticipated action games.
The two games are not identical, but there is likely significant audience overlap between players interested in large-scale fantasy action and combat-heavy RPGs.
October 29 was already a busy release date before Crimson Desert moved into it.
Ships and Ocean Exploration
One of the biggest additions in Charting the Unknown is expanded maritime exploration.
Players will be able to command their own ship and travel to previously inaccessible islands.
The system is intended to turn Pywel’s waters into a meaningful exploration space rather than simply scenery between landmasses.
Ship customization also appears likely to play a role.
Diving Adds Another Exploration Layer
The expansion also introduces underwater exploration.
Players will be able to dive beneath the surface to search for hidden treasure, ruins and other secrets on the ocean floor.
That gives Pearl Abyss another way to expand the world without simply adding more land.
New Bosses, Armor and Building Options
Charting the Unknown also includes new combat encounters.
Additional bosses range from human enemies to mechanical threats and sea creatures.
New armor sets will provide more equipment to chase.
Outside combat, the expansion adds more building and customization options, including additional structures and improvements to housing.
Economic systems are also being expanded, with certain properties or infrastructure potentially generating income.
More Character Stories
Pearl Abyss has also teased additional interactions with the people of Pywel and new stories involving Kliff, Oongka and Damiane.
Players have speculated that romantic relationships may be part of the expansion, but Pearl Abyss has not officially confirmed a romance system.
The price of Charting the Unknown has also not yet been announced.
The expansion now launches October 29 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
