Copenhagen Flames defeated Imperial Esports to claim the final playoff spot at the PGL Major Antwerp 2022. With the elimination of Imperial Esports, Brazil’s dream of a CS:GO Major title is shattered.

Imperial Esports and Copenhagen Flames faced each other in a do-or-die match, with the winner advancing to the Champions Stage. Copenhagen Flames got off to a fantastic start in the Legends Stage by winning two games in a row, but they failed to keep the momentum and suffered crushing defeats against Team Spirit and FaZe.

Imperial Gaming too had a 2-2 record and a win over Copenhagen Flames could be enough to get them into the Playoffs.

Match 1: Inferno

The first match kicked off on Inferno. Flames took the initial rounds and continued to rally against Imperial defenses. At the end of the first half, they had a tremendous 13-2 lead, and Imperial were hoping for a miraculous comeback.

However, Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjid and Rasmus “Zyphon” Nordfoss quickly shattered all their hopes and closed the map with a 16-2 score. Imperials had no answers for Flames’ strong counterattacks and powerful defenses, making the match appear one-sided.

Match 2: Vertigo

Imperial tried to mount a comeback on Vertigo’s pick, but despite putting in an excellent performance, Flames were leading 9-3 at the end of the first half. Imperial gaming, however, turned the game around with amazing teamwork and individual efforts from Fernando “fer” Alvarenga and Ricardo “boltz” Prass.  Flames won a few more rounds before Fer pulled off two clutches in a row to tie the game at 15-15, forcing overtime.

Overtime

Flames took the lead and won two consecutive overtime rounds, but Imperial Gaming came back to win the next round and keep their hopes alive. Flames only won one more round, while Imperial won two to force a second overtime with a score of 18-18. In the second overtime, the Flames won all three of their T-side rounds. They dominated the first round on CT as well, winning the map 22-18 and the series 2-0.

Copenhagen Flames had a brilliant run in the Challengers Stage and even after a few setbacks in Legends Stage, they secured a top-eight finish in PGL Antwerp Major. The Team is now preparing for the Champions Stage, which is set to begin on May 19.
