After a spectacular second half of the LCS Spring Split 2023, Cloud9 took first place in the standings after defeating FlyQuest in the last match of the season. On top of that, the team was also awarded the LCS Spring 2023 Coaching Staff award.

There is no doubt that this is a deserved award for a team that managed to play a spectacular second half of the season, winning seven of the eight games they played. In addition, they managed to snatch first place in the table from FlyQuest, the team on top throughout the Split.

With the award, Cloud9 joins Counter Logic Gaming, FlyQuest, 100 Thieves, and Golden Guardians as the teams that have also managed to win this award.

Cloud9 wins LCS Spring Coaching Staff Award

On March 29, the LCS announced the winners of the LCS Spring Split 2023 Awards, and, in addition to announcing the three LCS All-Pro Teams, they also announced the Coaching Staff of the Split, which went to Cloud9.

This award goes to:

  • Alfonso “Mithy” Rodriguez – Head Coach
  • Marius “Veigar V2” Aune – Assistant Coach
  • Zixing “TailsJJ” Jie – Assistant Coach
  • Jonathan “armao” Armao – Positional Coach (Jungle)
  • Marcin “selfie” Wolski – Positional Coach (MID)

Mithy, Head Coach of C9, wins his first award in his second season leading the team in the LCS. While he spent 2021 with the organization, he jumped to 100 Tieves in the 2022 season.

Now, in his return to Cloud9, he led the team to a spectacular Spring Split 2023, and, in addition, he is accompanied by great veterans in the scene and in the organization itself as Veigar V2 and TailsJJJ. Finally, both armao and selfie, both players who have recently retired from the scene, also received this award.

Decisive decision in the middle of the Split

While it is true that the work of each of the coaches during the Spring Split has been fantastic, there is no doubt that a decision made in the middle of the Split was the one that shook the team, positively speaking. Let’s remember that, at a critical moment of the season, Cloud9’s coaching staff decided to bring in Jang “EMENES” Min-su in place of Dmitri “Diplex” Ponomarev.

From that moment on, the team had a spectacular awakening and finished with an 11-3 record in the regular season. They followed that up with a very nice win over CLG in the Upper Bracket semifinals and most recently crushed FlyQuest again with a 3-0 score to advance to the Spring Split Grand Final.

Right now, the team is comfortably awaiting the winner of the Lower Bracket final between FlyQuest vs. (Golden Guardians/Evil Geniuses) in the Grand Final. This final will be played on April 10, 2023, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
