Supercell rolled out one of Clash Royale’s biggest updates in June 2025, bringing a major change to gameplay, progression and rewards. The update adds a brand-new mode called Merge Tactics, a Legendary Card with dual forms, changes to Trophy Road and Ranked system, and also several quality-of-life updates. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new.
New Game Mode: Merge Tactics

The top feature in the June update is Merge Tactics, a turn-based 4-player free-for-all game mode that unlocks at Arena 3. Different from the usual battles, this mode includes:
- Grid-based play: You place and merge the same troops to make stronger versions.
- No deck setup: You draw units during the match, which makes every match more unpredictable.
- Rulers and Traits: Pick a Ruler before each match for passive boosts. Also, Traits apply random match modifiers.
Merge Tactics mixes parts of Clash Mini and survival mechanics, offering something totally new.
Trophy Road & Ranked Mode Changes

Progression system got reworked:
- Trophy Road now goes till 10,000 trophies and adds: Valkalla Arena at 9,000, Legendary Arena at 9,500, and Seasonal Arenas rotate between 10,000–15,000
- Ranked Mode takes over Path of Legends and starts from 15,000 trophies. From August 2025, you need to reach Champion League in the season before to unlock Ranked.
- Ranked resets now partial. After each season, players drop to somewhere between 10,000–12,000 trophies.

Spirit Empress is a new Legendary card with two forms:
- 3 Elixir: A fast, melee ground unit.
- 6 Elixir: Turns into a ranged flying unit on a dragon that deals heavy damage.
The card launches July 7, 2025. It’s designed for elixir flexibility and tactical plays.
Skeleton Barrel Evolution
Also coming July 7 is the Evolution for Skeleton Barrel:
- When hit, it drops two barrels. Each spawns skeletons and does splash damage.
- This makes it more dangerous and better for control.
Balance Changes & Quality Updates
Season 72 brings balance changes:
- Buffs for low-use cards
- Nerfs to overpowered cards
- Evolved Hunter got reworked
For Season 73, Valkyrie and Monk are planned to be reworked based on feedback from high-tier gameplay.
Other updates include:
- Badge System: New look for rarities and a Seasonal Badge at 13.5k trophies, upgradable to Level 3 in Ultimate Champion.
- Game Mode Switcher: All modes now accessible directly, Events tab is removed.
- No Elixir Spectating: Stops unfair advantage during matches.
