Clash of Clans reintroduced the Revenge button in the October 2025 update, enabling Revenge seekers against the player who had attacked. Soon after the feature was re-introduced, a bug appeared which awarded Starry Ores each time a player took Revenge, even when there wasn’t a legitimate reason to gain the ores. Players basically had free ore.
Based on players in the community, there were claims that certain players were raking in enormous amounts of ore, which was equivalent to hundreds of U.S. dollars’ worth of resources in the game. The bug had spread rapidly, and many players knowingly or unwittingly benefited from it before Supercell resolved the issue.
The Developer Response to the Ore Exploit
Public Acknowledgment and Apology
Supercell was quick to respond through its official means. Their statement recognized the “unintended bug” concerning the new Revenge mechanic, and they undertook to look into it. They offered apologies to the players for the inconvenience.
Ore Revocation & Balance Adjustments

In a bid to bring fairness back, Supercell declared that all ore they received via the exploit would be removed irrespective of whether they had invested it or not. For that reason, most players found their ore number decrease with some dropping even an ore negative. Below is their official statement:
Some players will see their Ore balance decrease or go into the negative as it attempts to correct the problem.”
Compensation through Bundles
To compensate for the anomaly, Supercell announced that it would introduce special in-game bundles, each of which will include:
- 10 Starry Ores
- 40 Glowy Ores
- 250 Shiny Ores
Player Reactions & Fallout
Frustration Feedback
On Reddit and forums, the players lashed out in terms of confusion, outrage and disappointment:
“I watched my account go into negative ore, I didn’t even use the bug exploit on purpose.”
“Individuals who took the glitch owe money now, but yet retain over-leveled gear.”
Some have experienced drastic deficiencies, like losing tens of thousands of Shiny Ores or thousands of Glowy Ores. Others have said that when they attempted to remove the negative balance (by using the bonus or purchasing ores to remove the negative balance) it randomly reset the negative counter.
Impact on Competitive Balance

The exploit distorted the resource economy as well as the competitive balance. Others utilized the money from the exploit to get strong equipment quickly, likely damaging the reputation of ladder systems or clan wars.
Rolling ore back individually doesn’t always neatly restore the competitive balance because players will still be holding onto better gear even when put into negative ore. Essentially, we’re left with an unbalanced competitive game board with exploiters still holding the better gear while those penalized are in negative balance.
Conclusion
The “Ore bug” exploit in Clash of Clans is a high-risk reminder of the vulnerability of reward systems, and the need for balance. Supercell’s acknowledgment, retraction and compensation are valid emergency actions, but the question remains as to whether or not compromised players believe that the decision was fair.
