The exclusive North American matchmaking experience in League of Legends during returns for Worlds 2022. The Champions Queue for participating World Championship teams is intended to offer a better training experience in the region.

By opening this queue for all teams participating in the World Championship, the hosting region aims to celebrate the biggest League esports event of the year.

North America’s dedicated matchmaking service will be accessible to the world’s star league players, providing high-quality matches where the best of the best can go head-to-head.

Participants have to request acess

To ensure low latency throughout the Worlds process, the Champions Queue will be moved to the server closest to the current stage — Mexico City for the play-ins, Chicago for the groups through the semifinals, and Los Angeles for the finals. All matches will be played on Worlds Patch 12.18 and will support zero-delay streaming for all players and spectators with Champions Queue access, with any suspected ghosting leading to an immediate ban.

All current Champions Queue players will be granted entry pending review by the CQ Council to participate. In addition to all players participating in the Worlds, all active professional players who are from a Worlds-eligible league and are planning to travel to the United States can request access to this queue. Riot is also expanding the viewer pool and offering streaming access to selected content creators worldwide. Interested creators can also apply for access, with the proviso that streaming of Champions Queue is prohibited during the live broadcast of Worlds.

Boon for NA’s competitive scene

Just like in previous seasons, Champions Queue will feature integrated voice communications, an MMR system and a redesigned public leaderboard. As usual, to reduce matchmaking times and mitigate the impact on regional solo queue, Champions Queue will only run during limited, pre-determined windows during Worlds. Since the service is primarily used as a practice room during the World Championships, no prizes will be awarded to participants during this time window to allow the focus to remain on the tournament.

The Champions Queue is a huge step forward for the North American competitive scene and it has evolved well throughout 2022 to meet players’ needs. We can look forward to seeing the world’s best players play against each other during Champions Queue. The wait for Worlds will soon be over as groups will be drawn at the Worlds Group Draw show on September 11th once the LCS finals have been decided.
