Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was launched by Valve on August 21, 2012, which means that our beloved title will soon celebrate its 10th anniversary! The game has been played by tens of millions of people and to this day remains one of the most popular titles on Steam.

For the CS:GO community, the past 10 years have been full of memorable moments, amazing events, and interesting updates. That’s why Fragster decided to sum up some of these amazing moments in a CS:GO 10th anniversary series of articles.

Throughout the next following days, we will dive into the history of CS:GO, how its esports scene developed over the years, the biggest and most memorable moments and highlights in history, and more! Stay tuned!

What makes CS:GO great

For game titles, staying on top as a game and as an esport for a decade is quite a unique achievement, that currently only a few titles can boast.

CS:GO is kept alive by many things, including its community, Valve, the professional esports circuit, and the sheer quality of its gameplay. Once you understand how CS:GO is played and how you can get better at it, it’s hard to stop playing it.

One of the big advantages of CS:GO is that it’s very simple to learn. You don’t need to spend thousands of hours just to grasp the basics. This makes it perfect for a wide range of gamers. But at the same time, this FPS has so much depth that you could spend thousands of hours playing it and never get bored.

Getting the 10-Year Birthday Coin

On this special occasion, Valve prepared an anniversary game update, that adds special stuff into the game! Between August 16-23, everyone who accumulates enough in-game experience on their profile to get the first drop of the week will receive the 10-Year Birthday Coin. This is an item that might be valuable at some point in the future.

Of course, it’s nice to have it in your inventory just so that everyone knows that you didn’t miss CS:GO’s 10-year anniversary.

Along with the coin, Valve’s latest CS:GO update added five new maps to the game:

  • Breach
  • Tuscan
  • Anubis
  • Primetime
  • Blagai

Some of them were designed for the competitive game mode, while others have a different purpose. You can experiment with all of them and have fun, knowing that other players don’t have an edge against you on any of these maps.

Another cool thing that was part of Valve’s update is the sticker capsule. You can buy it for under $1 and get the chance to obtain one of the numerous cool-looking stickers. Valve and its workshop artists have done an amazing job this time and many of the models look great on your weapon skins.

What the future holds

Given that a lot of great FPS games have tried to kill CS:GO and failed, it’s likely that this game will endure for many years to come. Its community is only getting bigger and there are many mechanisms that make new players want to try the game. Right now, the future of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive looks very bright.
