The Call of Duty League 2023 has officially started, and this weekend the first matches of the season took place in the CDL 2023 Major II qualifiers. These qualifiers will serve to know the teams that will be present at the Boston Major that will be played in February at the MGM Music Hall.

Week 1 recap

The teams had a tough week in the CDL 2023 Major II qualifiers. We had unexpected losses, replayed entire rounds, and even irritation and confrontations between players for most of the weekend.

Still, it wasn’t all bad, for Toronto Ultra demonstrated excellent competitive spirit and sportsmanship. Likewise, the Atlanta Simps set a record.

This weekend marks the start of the 2023 CDL season. The New York Subliners sit atop the CDL standings with an excellent 10-3 record and hold very steady with 95 CDL points. This puts them a tiny margin ahead of Toronto Ultra.

On the other side of the table, we have the Royal Ravens and Boston Breach, two teams that have failed to find a good level of play since the beginning of the season.

Matches that had to be replayed

Last weekend, two games, Toronto vs. Florida and OpTic vs. Boston, had to be replayed. In the first of these, Toronto’s Eli “Standy” Bentz made an all-too-common developmental error and ended a Hardpoint in Hotel early, with Toronto winning by 100 points. Although the team had to consent to a complete replay of the contest, fortunately, it was resolved in their favor.

Similar circumstances played out in the OpTic vs. Boston match, where the third round Control match (again at Hotel) fell into conflict with a replay. Seth “Scump” Abner had streaks, and OpTic dominated Boston at the time, but despite losing that momentum, the team still managed to win. It was Cuyler “Huke” Garland’s first game for OpTic Texas, and he performed pretty well overall.

Other notable results

On the other hand, we have Atlanta FaZe getting a memorable win over Seattle Surge. In the control round, Chris “Simp” Lehr put together a spectacular streak of 16 kills before being defeated. However, he managed to stay alive for more than two minutes and finished with an excellent KD of +2.14.

On the other hand, LA Thieves failed to secure a single point in the CDL this weekend. Instead, they suffered a crushing loss to the Subliners before surrendering a 3-1 victory to the Los Angeles Guerrillas.
