Rasmus “Caps” Winther has become the first Western professional player inducted into Riot Games’ League of Legends Hall of Legends.
The G2 Esports mid laner is the third player to receive the honor, following Faker in 2024 and Uzi in 2025. Riot officially confirmed Caps on August 16 after Hall of Legends assets had appeared on the League of Legends PBE earlier in the week.
Caps will receive his official Hall of Legends trophy in Berlin on August 18. A dedicated Hall of Legends experience will follow, including an in-game event beginning September 10.
Caps becomes the first Western player selected
Caps’ induction represents a major milestone for European League of Legends.
Riot describes the Danish mid laner as the defining Western player of his generation and the most decorated player in European League history. His career has repeatedly placed him at the center of Europe’s strongest attempts to challenge teams from Korea and China on the international stage.
The Hall of Legends currently includes:
- Faker, inducted in 2024
- Uzi, inducted in 2025
- Caps, inducted in 2026
Caps is therefore not only Europe’s first representative but the first player from any Western region to enter Riot’s esports Hall of Fame.
His induction recognizes a career that changed expectations around how far a European League of Legends team could realistically go on the international stage.
International success defines Caps’ legacy
Caps rose to prominence with Fnatic before joining G2 Esports, becoming a central figure during one of the strongest periods Western League of Legends has produced.
He reached the World Championship final with Fnatic in 2018 before returning to the final with G2 in 2019. That G2 roster also won the Mid-Season Invitational in 2019, giving Europe one of its most significant international trophies of the modern era.
His aggressive approach to mid lane became one of his defining characteristics. Caps developed a reputation for unconventional champion choices, high-risk playmaking and an ability to change the direction of games through individual decisions.
| Career milestone | Significance |
|---|---|
| Worlds 2018 | Final with Fnatic |
| MSI 2019 | International title with G2 |
| Worlds 2019 | Second consecutive Worlds final |
| Hall of Legends 2026 | First Western inductee |
Riot’s announcement focuses heavily on that combination of creativity and consistency. Caps has remained relevant across multiple competitive eras despite changes to the meta, teammates and wider European ecosystem.
Hall of Legends uses a global voting process
Entry into the Hall of Legends is not decided exclusively by Riot.
Around 20 eligible players are nominated, with candidates required to have competed for at least five cumulative years at Tier 1 level.
An independent panel of 50 esports veterans from multiple regions then evaluates the nominees using several criteria:
- Regional and international championships
- International tournament appearances
- Role-specific competitive statistics
- Overall contributions to professional League of Legends
That system is intended to recognize more than trophy totals alone. Longevity, influence and a player’s overall contribution to League esports also form part of the evaluation.
Caps now joins two players whose careers represent very different forms of League history.
Faker became the inaugural inductee after establishing himself as the most successful player in the game’s competitive history. Uzi followed in 2025 after becoming one of the most influential ADC players of his era.
Caps brings Western League into that group for the first time.
Riot plans a full Caps celebration
The announcement is only the beginning of Riot’s Hall of Legends campaign.
Caps will receive his trophy during a ceremony in Berlin on August 18. His dedicated Hall of Legends website is scheduled to launch on August 24.
The in-game celebration begins September 10 and will include an event pass structured around moments from Caps’ career, alongside dedicated cosmetic content. Riot has not yet revealed the complete collection or pricing.
A full Hall of Legends film focused on Caps is also scheduled for September 10.
Like previous Hall of Legends inductees, Caps and teams connected to his career will receive a share of revenue generated through the associated passes and bundles.
Assessment
Caps becoming the first Western Hall of Legends inductee feels like a logical recognition of what he has represented for European League of Legends.
His career is not defined by matching Faker’s trophy record or Uzi’s individual legacy. Instead, Caps became the player most consistently associated with the idea that Western teams could challenge the world’s strongest organizations.
Two consecutive World Championship finals and an MSI title remain important parts of that story, but longevity is equally significant.
Caps has stayed at the center of European competition across multiple generations while maintaining the unpredictable playstyle that originally made him stand out.
His induction also gives Western League its first permanent place inside Riot’s highest individual esports honor.
Faker represented Korea. Uzi represented China. Caps now ensures that one of the most influential careers in European League of Legends receives the same historical recognition.
