Popular and successful video game developer Capcom is betting big on Street Fighter 6, the next title in the franchise. And yes, as you presume, a $2,000,000 tournament has been announced for a video game that has yet to be officially released.

While it’s been seven years since the fifth installment of this video game was released, the sixth will be out in mid-2023, and Capcom wants to throw the house out the window.

Capcom unveils Street Fighter 6 Capcom Cup X

Capcom takes advantage of the end of its most recent tournament, the Capcom Cup IX, the last tournament to be played in the Street Fighter V title, to announce its next competition, the Capcom Cup X.

As mentioned, the company announced that this new tournament would be based on its new title, Street Fighter 6. In addition, to celebrate the video game’s release and the cup’s tenth anniversary, the tournament winner will win no less than $1,000,000.

Capcom’s official press release states that the prize pool amounts to more than $2,000,000. However, only one person will take home almost half the prize money. This becomes, without a doubt, the largest reward ever awarded to a Capcom Cup winner. Starting in the summer of 2023, the Capcom Pro Tour will feature live and online events and the local World Warrior program.

So, when is the release of Street Fighter 6?

Now, if you were impressed by the prize and can’t wait to sign up for the tournament, you should be very patient, as the game’s release is still months away. Although it won’t be available until June 2, 2023, it’s worth noting that Street Fighter 6 will be available on practically all platforms, including Steam, PS4 and PS5, and Xbox Series. Moreover, the game will arrive with 18 playable characters and a host of new features.

Street Fighter 6 will include all those characters in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. In addition to them, there will also be new ones and some returning ones like:

  • Ryu
  • Luke
  • Jamie
  • Chun-Li
  • Guile
  • Kimberly
  • Juri
  • Ken
  • Blanka
  • Dhalsim
  • Honda
  • Dee Jay
  • Manon
  • Marisa
  • JP

On the other hand, it has been confirmed that the Arcade Mode will be available from the very launch of the game. This is something that has not been the case in previous releases. In addition, it was also announced that the game would be based on a new engine, which will give the characters a much more realistic look.

There is no doubt that we are entirely anxious to meet all these characters after seeing the great trailer presented by Capcom.
