Call of Duty Warzone Streamer Caught Cheating Live by Pro

Another day, another cheater caught in the act! Professional Call of Duty player @Tommey from the Dallas Empire Call of Duty Esports team caught a cheater live on stream. He Tweeted:

Ladies and gentlemen, we caught another one. If any of you know of “Mingostylegaming”, we just caught him live on stream cheating and accidentally opening his hacks”.

Tommey then uploaded a video capture of the stream, where you can clearly see the player bring up a cheat menu on his screen. Mingostylegaming, who has 466 followers on Twitch and a 5+ k/d, said it was “a joke”. However, this defense didn’t fly with people following the controversy on Twitter. This joke defense was likely inspired by PRO CoD player Symfuhny, who joked about cheating on his Twitch stream by bringing up a janky-looking cheat menu that looked like it was made in MS Paint. It’s fair to say that if Mingostylegaming wanted this to look like a joke, then his execution failed.

Brett, Assistant Head of Operation @CMG_eSports, then weighed in. CMG Esports run competitive Warzone tournaments, one of which Mingostylegaming was taking part in when he was caught cheating. To Mingostylegaming’s cheating defense, Brett said “This is the worst reply I’ve ever heard lol.”. He later confirmed that Mingostylegaming has been banned from the tournament and will not be unbanned. At the time of writing, he is not banned on Twitch, but this could change in the coming days.

Is Cheating a Major Problem in Warzone?

This story comes only one week after a Call of Duty: Warzone steamer lost his Twitch account for accidentally revealing he was cheating while bragging about how good he was at the game. You can’t make it up!

Cheating has been a major problem throughout the Call of Duty franchise since its release. Developers are always working on improving the anti-cheat software to detect and punish nefarious players looking to fake their way to the top.

Is the Anti-Cheat Software Working?

Yes, it looks like Infinity Ward’s anti-cheat software is making a major impact on the game. Today, new Warzone players have to sign up for two-factor authentication. It’s thought that this will put an end to banned players creating endless streams of new accounts. This change sparked a Reddit post with over 16,000 upvotes[1] exposing how the Warzone forums are now full of complaining cheaters.

Infinity Ward has also made some other changes to cheat detection, including an enhanced report feature on the Kill Cam, a process of notifying players when someone on their friend’s list has been banned for cheating, and an update to the matchmaking system. The updated matchmaking system matches suspected cheaters together. The idea behind this is that cheaters like to dominate, and the game will be significantly less fun if they play with other cheaters. Call of Duty Mobile did something similar to this, matching players who use mobile emulators (but who are actually playing on PC) together.

We’re still in the early days, so it’s expected that Infinity Ward will continue to perfect their anti-cheat software and increase their crackdown on cheating.
