Call of Duty – Pro Clayster to take break from competing

Call of Duty professional James “Clayster” Eubanks has announced a temporary break from competing, with the New York Subliners veteran having cited mental health issues as the reason. The 29-year-old broke the news via Twitter on earlier in the week, posting that “part of the balance of competing at the highest level is knowing when to recharge”.

It is not yet known as to exactly how long the American will take off, however the Subliners have already announced that Conor “Diamondcon” Johst will replace Clayster for their clash against the Paris Legion on Thursday. It could well be that Clayster returns against the Atlanta FaZe on Sunday.

What Clayster said on his decision

Speaking on his decision, Clayster posted the following message: “Just need a break from it all. I’m sure you all have seen I haven’t been myself in quite some time, need to take a step back and get myself straight mentally. Gotta take care of yourself over everything, and I don’t plan on this being “for good,” but I hope the boys crush it.”

The New York Subliners are struggling in the Call of Duty League, with their 21-15 record leaving them in 4th position in the standings at this point. The fact that Clayster has been far away from his brilliant best has certainly not helped the team. A break could therefore be exactly what the doctor ordered, with a number of Esports pros having taken time off over recent months. Fans of the Subliners will be keen to see who will act as in-game leader, as well as which role Diamondcon takes on.

Diamondcon is best known for his skills with an assault rifle, however another member of the NYSL could take on this role instead. The Canadian spent time with the New York Subliners Academy roster in May, before the team disbanded. He then moved to Team Canada on loan, where he spent almost two months.

Can Diamondcon step up in Clayster’s absence?

Diamondcon will have a good opportunity to rediscover his best form when the Subliners take on the Paris Legion, however some difficult matches follow in the coming weeks. They round their Seattle Surge Home Series campaign off agianst the Atlanta FaZe, with positive results being required following three consecutive defeats. A heavy loss against the London Royal Ravens has left the Subliners battling for a good Stage 5 Major placement.

We will wait and see as to whether Clayster returns for the Stage 5 Major, however it would not come as a surprise should the veteran miss this event too. With the 2021 playoffs getting underway in August, time is running out for Clayster and the Subliners to hit top form.
