Bwipo & Selfmade Reject New Contracts with Fnatic

If recent reports are to be believed, Fnatic will soon have to deal without both Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau and Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek. The duo has turned down the chance to sign new deals, meaning that the Fnatic League of Legends roster could well loo very different by the end of the year.

Fnatic failed to reach the Finals of the 2021 LEC Spring Split, putting the future of the team in question. Matters have now not been helped with the news that they could lose their starting top laner and jungler, with contract extensions appearing unlikely. Their current deals expire on November 15, when the duo would become free agents.

Why Bwipo & Selfmade Are Looking to Exit Fnatic

Fnatic finished in a disappointing fifth position at the 2021 LEC Spring Split, with their 9-9 regular season record having been followed by a playoff defeat against Schalke 04. With an apparent lack of strategy and teamwork, Fnatic faces their biggest decision in recent years.

The team has already had to deal with the loss of Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, with the AD carry having left Fnatic for G2 Esports in the previous offseason. Fnatic signed two new players, with mid laner Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek having joined Gen.G following his release.
Should Bwipo and Selfmade confirm their departure in the coming weeks, it would represent a major shift for Fnatic’s League of Legends lineup. Bwipo joined the team in January 2018, with the Belgian having previously played for the likes of Sector One and nDurance Gaming. Upon joining Fnatic, he shared top lane responsibilities with “sOAZ”, before making the position his own.

What the Future Holds for Fnatic

Selfmade then joined at the end of 2019, having made his name with SK Gaming. The 21-year-old jungler has also played briefly under the banner of both Thunder X3 Baskonia and MAD Lions. It is almost certain to be a busy 2021 offseason for Fnatic, who could well be forced to rebuild one again following their poor showing at Spring Split. However, the Summer Split could provide them with an opportunity to show potential signings that they are still good enough to mix it at the highest level.
