Team Liquid has formally set foot in Southeast Asia by acquiring the parent organization of two powerhouse Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams.
This was made possible by the acquisition of STUN.GG by Team Liquid. STUN.GG is a Southeast Asian esports organization that includes AURA Esports in Indonesia and ECHO in the Philippines.
As part of the deal, AURA and ECHO will be rebranded under the Team Liquid banner and will subsequently lead Team Liquid’s operations in the region.
Team Liquid Co-CEO Victor Goossens said of the acquisition, “we have always admired the intensity and loyalty of fans in Indonesia and the Philippines, which we’ve experienced firsthand in esports events in the past. When we saw an opportunity to strengthen our presence in Southeast Asia with these incredible competitive teams, we knew we had to do it with an organization built with the same values and philosophy as our own. We found that partner in the staff and fans of AURA and ECHO.”
“Joining Team Liquid is a dream come true,” said Daniel Santoso, Chief Brand Officer of AURA. “Liquid’s robust brand presence, competitive focus, and global strategy will empower us to achieve our goals on a grander scale. We believe in Team Liquid’s quest to build a global and multi-generational esports organization, and that was a key factor in this partnership.”
With a combined reach of over 10M followers on social media, AURA and ECHO are expected to give Team Liquid a supercharged head start in its foray into the region. The existing staff and leaders of AURA and ECHO will be joining Team Liquid to execute the brand’s strategy as it integrates into the company’s global business model.
Team Liquid also confirmed that it will “provide the AURA and ECHO team with greater resources to grow its presence as one of Southeast Asia’s premier esports clubs.”
“It was the leaders and staff of AURA and ECHO that convinced us that we were making the right decision,” Steve Arhancet, Co-CEO of Team Liquid, said in their joint press released. “Their integration is vital to our success in the region, and we will provide them with the guidance and autonomy they need to authentically represent Team Liquid in Indonesia and the Philippines. I am excited to welcome our new Indonesian and Filipino fans.”
