An upcoming gaming and esports campus in Croatia has been approved and funded by the country’s national government.

Esports Insider reported that the first round of financing for an upcoming gaming campus in Novska, Croatia, will be funded initially by the government at a cost of €26 million, or roughly US$28 million.

The campus, Esports Insider reported, will include several building and facilities – such as a 4,000-seater esports venue that is “largest dedicated esports facility in Croatia.”

Novska, a small town with a population just over 10,000, located approximately 100 kilometers southeast of Croatia’s capital Zagreb, is set to become a central hub for the country’s burgeoning game development industry. The town’s new gaming campus is the culmination of several smaller gaming-focused projects initiated since 2018, aiming to establish Novska as the epicenter of game development in Croatia.

The town already boasts a gaming incubator and various facilities catering to game developers. The new campus, sprawling over eight hectares of land, will significantly expand these offerings. It will include a dormitory, educational spaces, and a large-scale esports venue, among other facilities.

Initially, the creators of the esports facility planned for around 2,500 seats, but this number has since increased to 4,000 in the latest announcements. This expansion reflects the growing interest and investment in esports within the region.

The venue is designed to be fully adaptable for hosting esports matches and tournaments, as well as conferences and other events. This flexibility ensures it can accommodate a wide range of activities, making it a versatile addition to Novska’s infrastructure.

By developing this comprehensive gaming campus, Novska aims to attract more game developers and esports events, solidifying its position as a key player in the global gaming industry. The initiative not only promises to boost the local economy but also to put Croatia on the map as a destination for game development and esports.
