Sweden-based tournament organizer and platform Epulze has announced layoffs of an undisclosed number of employees.

Epulze co-founder and chief strategy officer Markus Lövgren confirmed the news through a post on his social media page.

“Due to some organizational restructuring, we unfortunately have to let some of our valued team members go. These are truly excellent individuals in their field, and I would love to help them find a new home. If you have any recruitment need in the esports/gaming space, please reach out,” Lövgren said in a post on LinkedIn.

A report by The Esports Advocate indicated that delays in securing additional funding were the primary cause behind this strategic decision.

Epulze, headquartered in Örebro, Sweden, operates as an online competition platform for global esports events. The company hosts daily tournaments across various games, aiming to connect gamers and provide opportunities to compete for money and prizes. Additionally, Epulze offers broadcasting services, supporting professional division tournaments, leagues, and other esports events.

One of Epulze’s notable events was the Dota 2 Bali Major, organized in collaboration with Southeast Asian esports event management company IO Esports. The company has also hosted Southeast Asia regional leagues for the Dota Pro Circuit and partnered with 4D Esports to organize the Lima Major 2023, Dota 2’s first Major in South America.

Epulze has successfully raised significant funds in the past. In 2019, the company secured SEK 17.5m (US$1.69 million), and in 2021, it raised SEK 57 million (US$5.49 million) in a corporate funding round. The latter saw participation from Swedish financial group Svea Ekonomi and Norwegian firm Carucel Finance.

These layoffs mark a challenging period for Epulze as it navigates financial uncertainties and seeks to realign its organizational structure, as detailed by Esports Insider.
