After several challenging seasons where the Boston Uprising showed an appalling level of play, it seems they have decided to end their mediocrity for the Overwatch League 2023.

With a spotless slate, the organization has signed a complete lineup full of MVP candidates and former champions. This means that, on paper, they are one of the strongest teams in the league this season.

Disappointment after disappointment

Since the organization joined the Overwatch League, they still don’t know what it’s like to win a title, and they haven’t even come close.

Boston Uprising’s best finish in the OWL has been in the inaugural season, where they finished between 5th-6th place. Since then, they have only been able to repeat that “success” once.

Boston Uprising’s results in recent years:

  • 19th place in the 2019 OWL
  • 9th and 11th place in the NA playoffs in 2022
  • 5th-6th place in NA playoffs in 2021
  • 14th place in the 2022 OWL

After this disappointing 2022, the organization has decided to break its title drought by investing heavily in its roster. Not only have they signed good players, but they are world-class, so we are sure they will help Boston Uprising to be at the top of the OWL in 2023.

New Boston Uprising lineup

With one exception, DPS Kwon “Striker” Nam-Joo, who returns to the organization from the San Francisco Shock for the third time in his career, is made up of players who will be making their Uprising debuts.

Even before the 2022 season was over, the organization decided to release most of its previous roster and sent the rest to free agency when the offseason began.

Yoo “smurf” Myeong-hwan, a two-time OWL winner with the San Francisco Shock, leads the new Boston Uprising squad as the main tank. He and Striker in the DPS role form a spectacular duo.

Former Washington Justice player Jang “Decay” Gui-un and returning legend from retirement Ji-hyeok “birdring” Kim arrives with the mission to help the team to its first-ever title.

We cannot overlook the two Supports stars who will be part of the team for the OWL 2023, Lee “LeeJaeGon” Jae-gon and Kim “IZaYaKI” Min-Chul, both from the Shanghai Dragons. These players have won consecutive Role Star awards as Supports in the last three seasons.

In the last hours, the signing of two more players has been announced to close this squad, the experienced tank Shin “Kalios” Woo-yeol and the Support Lee “Twilight” Joo-Seok.

High expectations in 2023

Boston Uprising, led by manager Aaron “PRE” Heckman and new head coach Shin “Dongsu” Dong-soo, will have to take this team to the top after four seasons to forget.

On paper, the team is simply spectacular. But there is no doubt they will have their work cut out to compete in the Overwatch League 2023.

Boston Uprising’s lineup for the Overwatch League 2023 is as follows:

  • Yoo “smurf” Myeong-Hwan – Tank
  • Kim “birdring” Ji-hyeok – DPS
  • Jang “Decay” Gui-un – DPS
  • Kwon “Striker” Nam-Joo – DPS
  • Lee “LeeJaeGon” Jae-gon – Support
  • Kim “IZaYaKI” Min-Chul – Support
  • Shin “Kalios” Woo-yeol – Tank
  • Lee “Twilight” Joo-Seok – Support
