fragster James Steward 30. August 2025

Borderlands 4 is coming out on September 12, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series s and PC, whereas the Nintendo Switch 2 version comes out on October 3. In addition to the base game, Gearbox has already released endgame progression plans as well as a roadmap going into 2026.

Endgame Systems

Reworked Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode

UVHM is returning, but operating slightly differently to its initial release. Five difficulty levels exist, each slightly more challenging than the last. As opposed to the past, game er no longer have to replay the entire campaign upon each new game run. Progression is instead achieved through chosen mission challenges that increase in difficulty upward.

Firmware Upgrades

Gears and weapons in Borderlands 4 can gain an “Firmware” bonus upon the player level up within UVHM. These bonuses enhance the stats of the item. They can be transferred once to another piece, but transferring destroys the item originally. Due to this reason, players need to consider well prior to selecting.

Weekly and Dynamic Features

  • Weekly Wildcards shift based on missions that guarantee Legendary drops.
  • Big Encore Boss weekly, Moxxi picks one boss, which is opened with Eridium. These bosses reward better loot than usual.
  • Maurice’s Black Market Machi appears early with hunt throughout Kairos, with location varying per game.

These are supplemented with matchmaking that attempts to put players in groups according to intent, thus making co-op play more fluid.
