Recently, Blizzard has been heavily criticized by Overwatch 2 players for “locking” characters in the game. This blocking is a requirement for new players of the shooter.

The Overwatch 2 fan community feels a bit disappointed at the prospects of the game. Recall that the developers of Overwatch 2 have revealed that the PvE mode will undergo a significant reduction.

With the news of the reduction of the Pve of Blizzard’s hero-shooter, the community has strongly reacted and shown their discontent. In addition, some content creators questioned the game developers for the need to release a sequel in the first place.

With the arrival of Overwatch 2, Blizzard made one of the biggest changes to the game; it changed the business model to free-to-play. With this change, any player can participate in the action without spending a dollar. However, with this change, Blizzard locked heroes behind battle passes and rotating reward boxes.

Now, the developers of Overwatch 2 have reduced the level needed to obtain the hero; this is a way to ensure that the battle pass does not become extremely intimidating. However, apparently, with the new Overwatch 2 players, it seems to have done the opposite; this fact has generated some negative reactions from many players.

Blizzard receives strong criticism for blocking characters in Overwatch 2

According to a Reddit post, new players must play several games to unlock heroes. Almost all characters are locked for a new player, both OW2 and classic OW1 heroes. Previously all characters were available in the game, and veteran player accounts could carry over all their heroes to the new game.

On the other hand, the Reddit user comments that one of the most difficult characters to unlock is Exho; since 135 games must be played for a novice player to enjoy him.

At the same time, this user comments that a friend started playing more than a month ago and had only the OW2 heroes locked; all the OW1 heroes were available. So, that user wonders what is happening with the new players.

But not all the comments are criticisms; there are also comments stating that Blizzard has had the motivation to implement this hero blocking.

One user comments that Blizzard may have taken this measure to deter Smurfs, as it will be very difficult for them to create alternative accounts. In addition, smurfs must take a lot of time to unlock heroes, so they will likely get tired and not bother playing that new account.

Currently, no one responsible for the game has commented on the decision to block heroes. Therefore, it is unclear if this will be a permanent decision in the game.
