BLAST.tv Paris Major to be last CS:GO Major

While it is true that we all knew that this news would come at some point, the reality is that we did not expect it to be so soon and, at the same time, so radical. Through a message on the official CS2 (formerly CS:GO) account, it was announced that the BLAST.tv Paris Major will be the last Major in the history of CS:GO.

This news ends a history going through its tenth anniversary and after 19 Majors held in this period. There is no doubt that this is good news for the future of the competitive scene of what will now be Counter-Strike 2, but now the question arises as to what will happen with the competitive scene during 2023.

Finally, Valve has announced that the date of the first Major in the history of Counetr-Strike 2 will be played in March 2024.

Valve announces the end of CS:GO Majors

With a somewhat dry announcement with very little information behind it via its official Twitter account, Valve ends the history of competitive CS:GO starting with the BLAST.tv Paris Major.

This news undoubtedly excites all community members, fans, casual players, professionals, content creators, and journalists. It also makes us think that, so far, the beta of the game that some players have been testing has been satisfactory.

We could also face a possible exact release date for CS2 because if the BLAST.tv Paris Major will be the last in the history of CS:GO, and it ends on May 21; we could have an approximate date for the end of that month.

But what will happen to the competitive scene in 2023?

This is the big question that many in the community and even players and teams are asking. The fact that the first CS2 Major will be played in March 2024 and the last CS:GO Major in May 2023 gives us a margin of 10 months in which we could be in limbo regarding competitive events.

There is no doubt that Valve thinks that players and teams have to prepare and practice in the new CS2, but it seems that ten months is a bit of a long time.

In addition, this announcement also means that the rest of the Majors planned for 2023 have been suspended, something that has not gone down as well with the community as they would have hoped.

There is still no official information about what will happen after the completion of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. There may be different tournaments, such as the ESL Pro League, or events normally played in the seasons but with CS2.

What does the arrival of CS2 mean for the community?

For all of us who have been involved in the CS:GO scene since its launch ten years ago, we are excited to have a big update to the game finally.

Moreover, this would mean the possible return of some of the many pros who decided to retire or make the jump to VALORANT. In the last few days, well-known personalities like Michael “shroud” Grzesiek and Tarik “tarik” Celik were excited after testing CS2.

Like them, many of us are looking forward and anxious to try CS2 and feel again like when we were kids and discovered the popular CS 1.6 or CS:GO.
