On May 1, BLAST Premier Spring Showdown tournaments in North America and Europe have concluded with a series of CS:GO battles full of surprises. In total, eight teams participated in each regional event, fighting for shared prize pools of $67,500 and an advance to the Spring Finals. Here are the main highlights of the event.

The North American grand final saw a thrilling, all-Brazilian clash between paiN Gaming and FURIA Esports. The hype about this match was real thanks to the support of the Brazilian CS:GO community. Some of the popular content creators, such as Alexandre “Gaules” Borba heated things up in particular through their own broadcasts of the competition.

In the end, paiN Gaming asserted dominance and won the tournament after defeating their countrymen with a 2-0 score on Vertigo (22-20) and Inferno (16-8). This marks the team’s biggest success at an A-tier event, as well as its first advance to the BLAST Premier Finals.

Sudden comeback by ENCE in European Showdown

In the European edition of the event, there was a lot of hope for Bad News Eagles, who recently qualified for the PGL Major Antwerp, becoming the first team from Kosovo that managed to enter the Major. However, they fell short and finished their journey at the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown after their first match against Ninjas in Pyjamas.

The grand final match was between the Finnish organization ENCE and Astralis from Denmark. The first map was not in ENCE’s favour, as they lost with a 3-16 score on Mirage. However, it didn’t stop them from making a comeback and earning their slot in Spring Finals. The only time ENCE competed in BLAST Premier Finals was during Spring 2020, when the team managed to advance from the Showdown playoffs and then placed last in Finals.

BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2022 preview

BLAST Premier Spring Finals 2022 will be held from June 15-19 at Altice Arena, Lisbon. The total shared prize pool is $425,000 along with a seed to World Final 2022 for the winner. Moreover, the first place gets 4000 BLAST Premier circuit points.

Here’s the full list of participating teams:

  • Team Vitality
  • OG
  • Natus Vincere
  • FaZe Clan
  • G2 Esports
  • BIG
  • ENCE
  • paiN Gaming

The main intrigue of the event is without doubt the performance of Natus Vincere. The squad owned the CS:GO scene in 2021, winning the PGL Major in Stockholm, as well as the BLAST Premier World Final, the ESL Pro League Season 14 and IEM XVI in Cologne.

Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine, the organisation’s motherland, seems to have brought the team down a little, based on the results of the recent ESL Pro League Season 15 and IEM XVI – Katowice in 2022, where they didn’t even enter the top three.
