BLAST adds 2nd Open RMR qualifiers for America and Europe

BLAST Premier, one of the best tournament organizers in the world, announces that there will be a second Open RMR Qualifier for Europe and America. On the other hand, the Qualifiers in the Americas are changing, with the mission of giving teams a better chance to qualify for the event.

BLAST announces that there will be an additional Open Qualifier for the BLAST.tv Paris Major Regional Major Ranking in North America, South America, and Europe, respectively. In addition, the schedules for some of these tournaments have been adjusted. Qualifiers in the Americas were moved forward one week, while closed qualifiers in all three regions were shortened by one day.

Second Qualifiers

Previously, there was only one open qualifier in each region, with all the spots for the closed qualifier being awarded. This certainly gave teams no margin for error and only a chance to earn a Major berth in a brutal single-elimination bracket in a best-of-one format.

Because of this structure, criticism of BLAST Premier increased over the months. Teams have pointed to a number of factors that could jeopardize their playoff efforts, including player illness, poor fitness, and the risk of encountering cheaters.

With this change, teams will have the opportunity to qualify for the Major in two three-day open tournaments. Teams that advance to the closed qualifier will play in the second playoff without overlapping.

Changed dates in the Americas

There will also be an additional Open Qualifier in the Americas. The dates of all tournaments are moved forward one week, likely in response to scheduling conflicts with ESL Pro League S17. The new dates are February 14 and 15, February 15 and 16 for the Open Qualifiers, and February 17 and 19 for the Closed Qualifiers.

Europe

• Open Qualifier 1: February 13-14
• Open Qualifier 2: February 14-15
• Closed Qualifier A: February 16-19
• Closed Qualifier B: February 16-19
• RMR: April 3-12 (Copenhagen, Denmark)

America

• Open Qualifier South America 1: February 14-15
• Open Qualifier for South America 2: 15-16 February
• Closed Qualifier South America: 17-19 February
• Open Qualifier for North America 1: February 14 and 15
• Open Qualifier for North America 2: February 15-16
• Closed Qualifier for North America: Feb. 17-19
• RMR: April 3-12 (Monterrey, Mexico)
