Black Ops 6 vs Black Ops 7 Breakdown: The Better Call of Duty for 2025

fragster James Steward 28. November 2025

For the second time ever, Activision made it possible for gamers to buy two titles from the same subseries in a row. The first was the Modern Warfare reboot, which ended with mixed opinions over Modern Warfare 3’s campaign and Zombies. Now, the Black Ops franchise replicates it, offering gamers Black Ops 6 in 2024 and Black Ops 7 in 2025.

The choice for many returning players and Black Friday consumers is indeed very easy: pick up the already cut-price Black Ops 6 or directly go for Black Ops 7. When these two games are put next to each other, the one thing that pops out is the content. That alone can be the deciding factor for the choice.

Black Ops 6 vs Black Ops 7 Breakdown:  Campaign

Black Ops 6

BO6 provided a solo campaign that happened in the late Cold War and Desert Storm era, and players had a Safehouse where they could make dialogue choices and upgrade their assets. The ten missions, one being free approach, went through stealth, spy tasks, and the usual CoD action. The conclusion which was meant to tie into Warzone somewhat felt out of place, but the majority of the players still enjoyed the campaign.

Black Ops 7

BO7 got rid of the old styling and introduced a new one, 4-player co-op campaign, wall-jump movement, and quests that are allocated between linear and open Avalon zones. Some players considered the boss fights a great addition, while others labeled the open parts as fillers. The game had a story that was really crazy, and it was one of the causes for the memes.

The One Advantage: Endgame

The Endgame mode is the main aspect of BO7 that is praised the most. It is similar to an open-world extraction scenario with no PvP. Players take on different missions and then come back to the safe zone to save their loadouts and try to defeat a major boss. Endgame mode is a great way to keep co-op players coming back with the constant updates and timed events. However, players who are not into this mode might be more inclined to prefer the structure of BO6.

Campaign Verdict: BO6 is the winner for players who are primarily interested in the storyline or those who like to play alone.

Multiplayer: Content Quantity vs. Modern Design Quality

Black Ops 6

With a full year of updates, BO6 has:

Zombies: Content Now vs. Later

  • 45 maps
  • 68 weapons
  • 64 Operators
  • More perks, Wildcards, and party modes than BO7
  • Omnimovement, which players accepted well

The amount of content is far beyond a normal launch-year title.

Black Ops 7

BO7 launched with fewer items:

  • 19 maps
  • 30 weapons
  • 24 Operators

But the content is built with clear intent. The game adds:

  • Limited SBMM
  • Persistent lobbies
  • Weapon build sharing
  • Wall-jump movement
  • More grounded cosmetic direction

Many players say BO7 has stronger map flow and pacing. And with fast seasonal updates, it could pass BO6 in total content before its cycle ends.

Multiplayer Verdict: BO6 was superior in terms of the variety of content offered, while BO7 was superior in terms of design updates and smoother gameplay experience.

Zombies: Content Now vs. Later

Black Ops 6

BO6 opened its gates to a vast Zombies population:

  • 5 maps for classic play
  • Grief mode
  • 68 plus 9 Wonder Weapons
  • Crafting systems
  • Perks, Gobblegums, Ammo Mods, Field Upgrades, and Augments in great quantities

This positions BO6 as quite an attractive choice for new players looking to consume everything at once.

Black Ops 7

BO7 rolled out with:

  • 1 classic map
  • 1 Survival map
  • Cursed Mode
  • Carry-Forward Gobblegums and other systems from BO6
  • A roadmap of at least four more classic maps

The mode is light at launch, but the base systems are solid and ready to expand. As per Zombies Decision: BO6 is superior at the moment. BO7 may surpass it eventually.

Which Game Is the Better Black Friday 2025 Buy?

Black Ops 6 is the winner. For about $35, you get all the content of Black Ops 6, which makes it a great value when compared to the full-price Black Ops 7. Even if later on BO7 becomes the richer game, its campaign was not well received, and its multiplayer and Zombies are still in the early stages of development.

For new, casual, or gift-buying players, BO6 provides more content, more modes, and a stronger campaign at a lesser price. BO7 may get better as time goes on but still, for Black Friday, Black Ops 6 is the better buy.
