Despite being an online tournament, Roobet Cup was an excellent event that featured some of the world-class CS:GO teams and plenty of hyped matches.

From June 22 to June 30, this competition delighted fans from all over the world with upsets, aces, and excellent shoutcasting.

Roobet Cup results

At the start of the tournament, the big favorites were FaZe Clan, Cloud9, and ENCE. Astralis, BIG, and OG also looked capable of getting a decent result, but they were regarded as being much weaker than the first three teams.

However, when the matches began, it quickly became obvious that one team from the second group was likely stronger than everyone else. And that team was BIG.

BIG’s path to victory

BIG started in Group A, where they faced Entropiq and FaZe Clan. The first match ended with a victory that didn’t surprise anyone, however, the second one shocked the whole CS:GO community. Why would a team that was not even in the top 10 beat the Major champions?

Thanks to their 2–1 victory against FaZe, BIG qualified for the playoffs, where they played against Eternal Fire. The match was tough, with the Turks winning the second map in overtime. But the third map proved to be one of the best maps of the tournament for three of the BIG players and they managed to overwhelm eternal to advance to the semifinals.

In the semifinal match against Cloud9, BIG were expected to lose. After all, C9 had dominated their group and were among the favourites. But to everyone’s surprise, the match was very one-sided and ended quickly — 16-9 on Dust II and 16-12 on Inferno.

In the Roobet Cup Grand Final, BIG encountered FaZe Clan for the second time at this event. In the group stage, the German squad won against Finn “karrigan” Andersen’s team, and now the community was anxious to see whether that victory was real or just a fluke.

In the end, BIG proved themselves one more time, largely thanks to Florian “syrsoN” Rische’s amazing performance. The player finished with a K-D score of +33 and a rating 2.0 of 1.33. He was easily the man of the match and probably caught a lot of org’s attention with his AWP shots.

The match was tough for both sides. BIG won on Dust2 with a score of 16-3, then FaZe replied on Nuke, winning 16-14. On decisive Mirage, overtime was needed and BIG ended up winning 19-17.

This was a well-deserved victory for the German organization, but can they continue to play like this against the world’s top? And more importantly, can they do it on LAN?
