The Eastern European Qualifier for The International 11 has concluded and the winners were BetBoom Team. This was an amazing run and a demonstration of skill on their part. It looks like the decision to bring in Vladimir “RodjER” Nikogosian right before the start of the competition was an inspired one.

The tournament began with three big favorites: Outsiders, Natus Vincere, and BetBoom Team. All three of them finished in the top three but few people would have predicted that BetBoom would be the winners.

BetBoom’s epic run

BetBoom started the tournament in the upper bracket and won their first match against One Move. Both teams preferred to have some overlap between the drafts. One Move picked Hoodwink twice, while BetBoom picked Visage. In both cases, BetBoom’s drafts worked better.

The second match was much tougher because the opponent was Natus Vincere. Led by Alexey “Solo” Berezin, a player who has won numerous Dota 2 Majors in his career, Na’Vi looked very strong and they showcased their versatility in this match.

Despite losing game one against Visage, Solo decided to let BetBoom pick him again for games two and three, knowing that his drafts would counter him. And indeed, that’s exactly what happened.

Of particular beauty was game three, thanks to the synergy of the heroes. All of them had enormous early game potential and the battle was won in less than 25 minutes, which is the Dota 2 equivalent of a 9-Pool in StarCraft 2. The heroes picked by Solo for this game were Death Prophet, Chen, Primal Beast, Pudge, and Ember.

After dropping to the lower bracket, BetBoom won against Nemiga (2-1) and OneMove (2-0). Both matches were tough but the leadership of Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev proved to be good enough to carry the team to a victory.

At this point, only three teams were left in the race and BetBoom had to fight one more time against Na’Vi. Except that this time, SoNNeikO’s drafts were designed to win the laning stage and the early game. Everything else was a formality. Game one ended in 30 minutes and game two in just 27. In both cases, BetBoom picked Vengeful Spirit.

Grand Final

The Grand Final between BetBoom and Outsiders was expected to be a really tough match for both sides. And Outsiders (Virtus.pro) were regarded as the clear favorites.

The result was a shocking 3-0 victory in favor of BetBoom, who stayed true to their favorite hero picks and won with Death Prophet, Enigma, Chen, Earth Spirit, and other heroes that have become their specialty. Apart from game two, which lasted for almost 50 minutes, the battles were easily won by RodjER’s team.
