Berlin Major day 4 summary: Talon have recovered

Day 4 of ESL One Berlin Major featured a lot of interesting matches but also some terrible upsets that threaten to eliminate some of the teams that were supposed to be very strong.

BetBoom Team failed miserably at the Lima Major and are about to suffer the same fate at this event. Their last match will be against PSG.LGD and unless they manage to win it, their chances of surviving the group stage are minimal. They’re currently ranked seventh in group A and there are four teams that have just one point more than they do.

The only competitor that can sit comfortably in this group is Gaimin Gladiators. Meanwhile, in group B, we already know who the top four teams are. And that’s because their results in the first four days of the tournament have been vastly better than those of the bottom five teams in the group.

Group A results

In group A of ESL One Berlin Major, Gaimin Gladiators now have a record of 4 W – 3 D – 0 L. They are one of the five teams that are still undefeated after seven matches. But they are not the highest-ranking competitor overall. They’re only third right now. That’s because in group B, Tundra Esports and OG managed to score 12 points.

Although, to be fair, Gladiators have played just seven matches, while OG have played all of them.

The battle for the next five positions in group B takes place between six teams. In the case of 9 Pandas, it’s almost a given that they will finish in the top four because they have 9 points with one match left to play. But for Evil Geniuses, PSG.LGD, Team Aster, Team Liquid, and BetBoom, things are a lot more complicated.

Based on who will play who on the fifth day, 9 Pandas, PSG.LGD, and Team Liquid will advance to the upper bracket while Evil Geniuses and Team Aster will advance to the lower bracket. In Aster’s case, the team has already played all of the matches and is now waiting for the final results.

Group B results

In group B there’s not much left to be decided. Talon and Xtreme Gaming seem destined to go to the lower bracket, while Tundra, OG, Team Spirit, and Shopify Rebellion are already in the upper bracket. But maybe the final round of matches can change who will finish fifth and sixth.
