Battlefield 6 has enjoyed a successful launch and impressive player counts, with even greater popularity than its predecessor. It wasn’t long, however, until the community found a bug that caused the bullets that hit the enemy to visibly hit (even blood splatter) but didn’t register damage. To make the situation worse, this bug was due to specific weapon / attachment combinations, entirely breaking the reliability and enjoyment of shooting in the game. Fortunately, Battlefield Studios has released a hotfix that prevents this combination of weapons and attachments from being used while improving the shooting experience.
Addressing the “Ghost Bullets” Problem

Players referred to this bug as “ghost bullets”, which caused shots that looked like they registered the hit on enemies, but didn’t actually register any damage. Principal Game Designer Florian Le Bihan posted on X (formally Twitter), stating that this occurred normally sometimes and was related to certain weapon and attachment combinations. The hotfix should fix the instances of the bug and fix the problem so that damage registers when shots land.
Broader Gameplay Concerns and Ongoing Fixes

This patch resolves a critical bug, however, there are still other small gameplay bugs. Problems have been flagged by players in areas of weapon bloom (inaccuracy after firing repeatedly) and hit registration, outside of the ghost bullet bug. Florian Le Bihan admitted that “there are multiple different issues that impact the accuracy of bullets and there will be more hotfixes to come.”
A Return to Form for Battlefield

While some players find similarities from an overall feel perspective to call of duty, the positive launch and pocket developer responsiveness, point to a promising future. The system that Battlefield Studios established for fast hotfixes indicates they are listening to players and want to improve the mechanical action.
Overall, this hotfix is significant with rationalizing the damaging registration shortcoming of players being tagged and is a catalyst in establishing trust with the gunplay of battlefield 6. Expect the developers will continue to update as they refine gameplay and address feedback through the use of the reporting function to their on-going content plan.
