A few days ago, Valve banned over 40,000 accounts using cheats in Dota 2.

According to the game’s developers, the third-party (unofficial) program gave cheaters an unfair match advantage. These players could access data that the Dota 2 client uses internally, which is not displayed during a normal match. However, Valve put a comb on the cheaters, and more than 40,000 stepped on it and fell into the developer’s trap.

A fan pretends to be a hacker and discovers something disturbing

After this wave of bans by Valve, a fan has taken the trouble to disguise himself and thus sneak into the world of Dota 2 hackers and discover something shocking. His mission was to see how these players were handling the issue that they had been permanently banned for a cheat used by Valve.

According to Reddit user mjifi, the hackers recovered from the setbacks caused by the bans in a matter of hours. According to this user, the cheaters determined precisely how Valve caught them cheating and thus implemented fixes to their methods to avoid being banned.

The community awaits a response from Valve

While Dota 2 fans, casual and competitive players, would love to have their game free of cheaters immediately, this is currently impossible. Cheaters are becoming more and more prepared and have the ability to circumvent Valve’s security to take advantage of their games.

Knowing this news firsthand, Valve must act as quickly as possible. However, we do not know if the goal will be to create a much more powerful VAC and much more complicated to dodge cheaters. After the developers attacked the cheaters on February 21, it only took 48 hours for them to find a new way to go unnoticed.

On the other hand, Valve may also be waiting to release a significant update to its anti-cheating system after the Dota 2 Lima Major 2023 is over. The new game update will arrive on March 6, which may include some bug fixes and security updates.

Finally, Valve could also take drastic measures, such as banning Hardware. However, this measure would undoubtedly be devastating for cheaters.

A great debate was generated on Reddit

After the information posted by this user on Reddit, a considerable debate was opened about those who use cheating to win games.

One of the users said:

“You can make yourself be the good guy in anything just by changing your perspective. Just tell yourself ‘everyone else is cheating, I’m just evening the playing fields’ or ‘the wins I get from this are absolutely tiny compared to the amount of losses I get from matchmaking giving me shitty allies to force 50% win rate’ or whatever else pops into your head to make you the hero of the story.”

There is no doubt that, in all online video games, whether they have competitive modes or not, there will always be those who want to cheat to have the “best rank,” so to speak. Unfortunately, this is a practice that can never really be avoided, as it is possible that these cheats can come from within the companies, in this case, Valve from some disgruntled worker or something like that.

My opinion about these practices is simple: Using a program to take advantage of a game and win makes no sense. You’re cheating yourself because you’re likely to get mopped up with yourself in a top-tier competitive environment.
