Arteezy Seeks A New Challenge

fragster Jennifer Davis 27. July 2024

After many years of competing for North American teams, Arteezy is finally fed up with the local scene’s Dota 2 teams and has decided to bench himself.

Without Fly, who left at the end of last season, Shopify Rebellion is clearly not going anywhere. The team missed both Riyadh Masters 2024 and The International 13, losing each time in the Grand Final of the qualification tournament against nouns, Fly’s new team.

Arteezy probably realized that as time goes on, nouns will get stronger and stronger while Shopify Rebellion will lose their way because they lack a great strategic mind. Not that BuLba isn’t a good coach. He’s actually one of the best in the region. But you can’t rely just on your coach. You also need to have a captain who really knows how to win tough games.

Arteezy’s NA Dota 2 Career

Arteezy came back to NA after a brief experience with Team Secret. This happened at the end of the 2015 – 2016 season. At 28, he spent most of his career competing for Evil Geniuses and Shopify Rebellion, winning $2,7 just from tournaments alone.

Now he’s clearly tired of training hard and losing because of his teammates, so he benched himself. There are two possibilities. He will either become a full-time streamer or he will move to Europe after The International 13 and join a strong team.

At the moment, Arteezy declared that he doesn’t know what the future holds but revealed that these are the two realistic options. At 28, he’s definitely not too old for professional Dota 2 and he continues to be one of the best carry players in the world.

The main issue is that he’s never been a leader or someone who enjoys coaching teams. He’s more like ana, the famous Australian player who plays insanely well on his own but doesn’t do well if his teammates don’t provide enough support.

Throughout his career, Arteezy won half a dozen important tournaments and finished 3rd at The International twice. Most players can only dream of achieving what he achieved. However, it must be stated that he never won TI and never won a Major.

Because of that, if he decides to quit now, he will likely be remembered as one of the most exciting underachievers in the game, and he will never receive a place in the top five greatest carry players of all time. We might see him in the top ten, but that’s about it.

Arteezy’s Next Step

With so many teams struggling in Europe and trying to improve their chances for 2025, Arteezy will almost certainly receive some good offers in the next two months. His friend from Team Secret, Puppey, might want to make one final attempt at winning big tournaments before retiring, and Arteezy would be the perfect position 1 or 2 player for his roster.

Other teams could also view him as an excellent signing. He still has at least 3-4 years left before he’s considered too “old” to play professionally, and he would surely regain his motivation if he moved to Europe because a new beginning is always something to be excited about.
