Summary:

  • Embark Studios has received numerous offers from production companies to adapt ARC Raiders into film or television series.
  • CEO Patrick Söderlund confirms interest from multiple studios but states no adaptation is currently in development.
  • The extraction shooter’s big success, with 12 million copies sold and 3.2 million people playing at its busiest, makes it appealing for a Hollywood adaptation.

ARC Raiders has only been out for a short time, but it is already getting a lot of attention from Hollywood studios. Less than three months after launch, several film and tv companies have reportedly contacted Embark Studios about possible adaptations of ARC Raiders. This early interest shows that video games are becoming more important as sources for stories.

Multiple Production Companies Express Interest

During a recent interview with GamesBeat, Söderlund acknowledged the overwhelming industry interest in ARC Raiders as source material. “I can’t tell you how many companies have reached out wanting to make a TV series [and] movie out of this IP,” the CEO stated.

When asked whether he had been tempted by any offers, Söderlund admitted the proposals were intriguing. He also added, “We wouldn’t mind doing that. It would be fun, but it needs to be done in the right way.”

The CEO pointed out that while Embark has a team of writers working on the game’s story, the studio does not “have anyone working on a TV or film adaptation yet”. Though he made it clear that it could change in the future. This careful approach shows that Embark wants to ensure any adaptation stays true to the ARC Raiders world.

ARC Raiders’ Rich World-Building Appeals to Producers

The game’s detailed backstory and strong setting give a lot to work with for an adaptation. ARC Raiders shows a world after disaster, where the environment has collapsed, and most people have been wiped out.

Survivors are forced to live underground after strange robots called ARC took over the surface. With few resources left, scavengers have to go above ground to find supplies. This is while they are also fighting to survive against both the robots and other players.

Even though the game does not have a regular story mode, its background story comes out through missions, conversations, and the game world itself. Characters like Tian Wen, Celeste, Lance, and different traders make the world feel more real and emotional. These parts would work well for a TV show or movie.

Commercial Success Drives Hollywood Interest

ARC Raiders’ huge sales are clearly making Hollywood more interested in adapting it. Even though it came out between two big games, Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the extraction shooter not only survived but did very well. It keeps 91% of its Steam players while Battlefield 6 lost 85%. The game reportedly sold over 12 million copies, made about $350 million, and reached 3.2 million daily players on January 4, 2026.

It also got great reviews, with IGN giving it a 9 out of 10 and praising its “polished gunplay and irresistible grind” that “sets a new standard for extraction shooters.” The game reached 700,000 people playing at the same time across all platforms.

It also won the Most Innovative Gameplay award at the Steam Awards. This mix of strong sales, players sticking with the game, and good reviews shows Hollywood that ARC Raiders has a story worth adapting.

Video Game Adaptations Continue Trending Upward

ARC Raiders enters adaptation discussions during a golden era for video game-to-screen translations. Recent years have produced highly successful adaptations. This includes HBO’s The Last of Us, Netflix’s Arcane, Amazon’s Fallout, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and A Minecraft Movie.

The 2026-2027 release schedule shows this trend is still growing. With more than 50 video game adaptations now being worked on, the race for good stories has gotten tougher. This is making successful new games like ARC Raiders especially appealing to production companies.

However, Embark’s careful approach shows the studio wants to find the right creative partner. Much better instead of rushing into deals that might not be good for the game in the long run.

Final Thoughts

ARC Raiders’ fast move from a new game to getting Hollywood’s attention shows its big impact on culture and business. Interest from movies and TV studios shows that ARC Raiders has a strong story, excited players, and lots of story ideas. If a movie or show happens in the future, it will likely be made the way Embark wants.
