Apex Legends Season 27 Ranked Changes: What You Need to Know

fragster Ahsan Kabir 25. October 2025

Apex Legends Season 27 has made some pretty big changes to the ranked matchmaking system, especially for those players found in the highest tiers of standing within the game. The purpose of these changes is to better regulate the competitive balance of ranked matches and for skill-based rankings to represent one’s skill more accurately than in previous seasons. The ranked updates for Season 27 went into effect on November 4, 2025, and there has already been discourse amongst the Apex Legends community.

One of the major changes to the ranked matchmaking system in Season 27 is that there is stricter matchmaking for players in the Master and Apex Predator ranks. In prior seasons, players in the top two tiers could join matches with teammates who were across a larger range of ranks, which occasionally created a gap in competition level in games. In Season 27, a player who has ranked Master or higher will only be matched with players who are in Diamond I or Apex Predator ranks. This new system looks to create an improvement in consistency and competitive balance at the top of the ranked ladder, and provides better representations of player skill. This update is to apply to all platforms and will continue throughout Season 27.

Mid-Season 26 data indicate the difficulty of breaking into the top tiers of ranked play. Fewer than two percent of players reached Diamond III or above, and only two-tenths of a percent reached Diamond I, while four-tenths of a percent reached Master. The vast majority of players remained in Gold IV through Platinum III, affirming the difficulty of reaching the top ranks and providing context for the new matchmaking changes that are aimed at preserving the competitive integrity of the high ranks.

Effects on Players

High-ranked players will likely see more difficult and closely matched games with those changes, while likely still keeping games consistent with fewer differences in lobby quality. Middle-tier players will likely still see slight effects as the upper ranks slightly shift due to those players being in the top ranks, but mostly limited to matches with those ranked players. Overall, Season 27 emphasizes individual skill, teamwork, and consistently carrying, reaffirming that entering and remaining at ranks at the top of the ranks should be indicative of their actual ability and not a matter of chance when matchmaking.

The Season 27 changes indicated Respawn’s continued effort to balance competitiveness in Apex Legends. By tightening matchmaking in the highest ranks, players working to climb ranks in a fair, rewarding manner have access to enjoy the game properly.
