New Permanent Game Mode: Wildcard

Apex Legends Season 26 is starting off with a bang with the new permanent mode, Wildcard. Wildcard matches consist of 30 players and take place on a modified map of Kings Canyon with ziplines, gravity cannons, jump pads, and other ways of travelling through the map faster, so players are always moving. Players start in a consolidated ring, so they’re right into the action. Moreover, players will also start with a Self Revive Kit, ensuring they’ll get a chance to fight again if they get knocked down.

One of the coolest aspects of Wildcard is the options for Legends stacking. Squads can deploy with three of the same Legend, which opens up some interesting and strategic possibilities. Moreover, the game mode streamlined the loot acquisition with fully kitted weapons that can be leveled up using Evo Orbs dropped by downed enemies. All ground loot will be automatically collected so that players can focus on doing the combat rather than spending time looking for their next item.

Map Updates

Apex Legends Season 26 is adding some awesome map changes that’ll turn around the gameplay and visuals on some battlegrounds. Notably, the E-District map has a pretty significant overhaul, going from nighttime to daytime, which instantly improves visibility and ambiance. The lighting update also showcases the level design of a complex and vertical E-District a little differently. Now, everything about E-District looks fresh and beautiful.

Besides E-District, other maps got thoughtful updates this season. King’s Canyon was completely new solely for the new Wild Card game mode, with improved lighting that brings the classic map up to today’s aesthetic styles. However, this remastered King’s Canyon is only available in the Wild Card mode. Though the base version of the map was not allowed to have gravity jump pads and all that, it still benefits from a refresh of the lighting and improved color coding of assets to further add to player awareness and immersion in the game.

Weapon Changes and New Gear System

One of Apex Legends Season 26’s biggest highlights is Elite weapons. And while there are plenty of new Elite weapons, the RE-45 Burst Pistol is easily the most significant change. This Elite version of the RE-45 has switched from shooting light ammo to energy bursts, with a charge bar that increases fire-rate, which it hasn’t done before.

On top of that, we start to see Hop-Up attachments become permanently attached to weapons and unlocked at damage milestones. Specifically, old Hop-Ups like Disruptor Rounds, Anvil Receiver, and Double Tap Trigger are back, adding to tactical diversity. Moreover, the Peacekeeper comes back to floor loot, and we see Rampage and G7 Scout in care packages. And lastly, the Akimbo P2020, which comes with the Kinetic Feeder Hop-Up.

In addition to this, Apex Legends Season 26 includes Amps. Amps greatly enhance gameplay and add lootable passive perks, which add character stats above a Legend’s basic skill set. Midway through the match, players will find Amps on the map in both Ranked and Unranked modes. Amps are not like regular gear and will provide a permanent bonus to performance in the match until their removal.

New Skins and Cosmetics

Apex Legends Season 26 drops a new batch of skins and cosmetics that take thematic design and visual shine to the next level!

Horizon (Legendary): done in a wild red tone with black panels and spike-like components. It is speculated to be a part of a milestone event that players can unlock through gameplay or purchase tiers.
Octane: embraces the ferocity and intimidating proportions of a dragon or oni. And, we know it’s got a mask that is red and black, and the eyes glow. Moreover, the claws are crazy, so it certainly feels in line with his chaotic vibe for a possible limited-time bundle.
Revenant: appears to have the most bone-chilling new look of the season dressed in icy blue armor and skeletal plating. In addition, it includes a mask that brings necromancer powers to life through cyber-ninja tech.
Caustic: shows off his samurai armor set, complete with spiked shoulder pads and a mask like from a dystopian warzone.
Ash: sharp sci-fi armor plating with glowing accents that enhance her robotic precision and aggression.
