Rotating Map Pool for League of Legends ARAM

Starting with the biggest change, new maps will be available to play in ARAM with the introduction of a three-map rotation system. The frozen bridge of Freljord’s Howling Abyss once stood as the only witness to epic single-lane battles. Now, players get to go at one another on new battlefields: the themed maps of Bilgewater and Ionia. These new maps don’t just add different visual flavors, though. Each one has unique gameplay mechanics that keep matches fresh without changing the game mode’s core identity.

Butcher’s Bridge makes its triumphant return from the iconic Burning Tides event. This gritty Bilgewater-themed map features new cannons that launch players across the battlefield, similar to URF mode. The map’s center now includes an alcove with Power Flowers that provide temporary shields and cooldown reductions when destroyed.

Meanwhile, the completely new Koeshin’s Crossing transforms League of Legends ARAM with its Spirit Blossom theme. Purple flowers and lush greenery create a stunning visual experience. This map introduces Spirit Blossom portals that replace Hextech Gates, offering instant teleportation without channeling time. They can also transport players directly to the map’s center, opening new strategic possibilities for melee champions and assassins.

What’s more, players that die during the game wouldn’t just be met with a gray screen. Instead, as they wait to respawn on this map, they’ll see a “spiritual version” of the bridge; a unique afterlife viewing experience. Koeshin’s Crossing is currently limited-time content, but positive reception may make it permanent eventually. We may even see more maps or features added in the future too.

New Champion Select System

Many League of Legends ARAM players have long been frustrated with the reroll system during champion select. Fortunately for them, Riot Games has now made the move to remove it entirely. In its place, a new ‘Champion Cards’ system will instead allow players to select from random champions without compromising their teammates’ options.

The new Champion Cards system gives players two champion options at match start, with a rare third option occasionally appearing. Champions not selected go straight to a communal bench where teammates can pick them up. There’ll be less chances of getting stuck with an unwanted champion or teammates that flame you for not rerolling.

This system ensures everyone gets a say in their champion choice while maintaining ARAM’s random spirit. With this change, devs hope to eliminate the pressure and toxicity surrounding rerolls.

Quality of Life Improvements and Other Updates

Beyond the major structural changes, Riot has added numerous smaller improvements that enhance the overall ARAM experience. Shopkeepers now feature updated voice lines that reference ongoing Runeterra storylines, while environmental storytelling elements provide lore enthusiasts with plenty of Easter eggs to discover. They also now feature the returning Spectral Cutlass item, which benefits assassins and mobility-focused champions.

The development team has also confirmed that these changes are intended to be permanent, though they remain open to adjustments based on player feedback.
