The International, often abbreviated as TI, is the most prestigious tournament in Dota 2 esports. Players and teams battle in countless minor and major leagues throughout every season, all to qualify for this grand international stage. The final goal remains to be the Aegis of Champions, coveted by many, yet claimed only by the greatest in the league.

From the inaugural TI1 tournament in 2011 until the recently concluded The International 2024 (TI13), let’s look at all the winners who successfully rose above all in Dota 2’s grandest annual esports competition.

Team Spirit joined OG as the next team to win multiple championship titles in 2023. They claimed their second Aegis after defeating Gaimin Gladiators in the TI12 finals. The International 2024 that recently took place on September 4-15 saw another miracle win with Team Liquid, who broke their infamous “second-place curse”. Returning with a new roster, the European team blocked Gaimin Gladiators from winning a single finals game and swept the series clean with a 3-0 win. They won only $1.17 million from the more than $2 million prize pool, a far cry from past rewards.

The End Goal Every Season

For pro teams and players, The International is the final boss, the greatest challenge among all Dota 2 leagues of every season. Never given and only earned, the highly coveted Aegis of Champions awaits the names of the strongest and most worthy. Engraved on the trophy’s back, every TI champion team will have their names and handles “immortalized” in history.

Despite the shrinking prize pool due to changes in funding and the impact of the pandemic, TI remains as Dota 2’s biggest event. Teams still fight tooth-and-nail to reach this end goal, competing for the glory far greater than gold.
