A Quick Look At Cloud9’s New CS2 Roster

It hasn’t been such a long time since we last saw Cloud9 on the big stages and competing against the world’s best CS2 teams. In fact, it happened back in March, at PGL Major Copenhagen, where they finished 5th – 8th, a phenomenal result all things considered.

Then, at IEM Chengdu, C9 finished 9th – 12th, proving once again that they’re a decent team. But immediately after, the team lost three players: Perfecto, HObbit, and electroNic. All of these players are difficult to replace because they’re highly experienced and highly accomplished.

Thanks to having Boombl4 as their IGL, Cloud9 have the potential to rebuild and come back stronger. But it won’t be easy.

New Players

The three players who were signed by C9 in July are HeavyGod, ICY, and interz. All three of them are well-known thanks to their performance at their previous teams.

HeavyGod used to play for Endpoint and then for OG, with whom he obtained numerous top four results in B-tier and A-tier competitions. In April this year, OG finished 2nd at Skyesports Masters, winning $70.000 for their result.

ICY is a former AVANGAR and AMKAL player. He competed at the Copenhagen Major this year, where he finished 23rd – 24th. He also played in CCT Season 2 European Series #1, a tournament he won, as well as in CCT Season 1 Global Finals, where he finished 5th – 8th.

Interz is a former Gambit Esports, Cloud9, and TSM player. Back in 2021, he was winning important trophies with Gambit. In 2022, he won IEM Dallas with C9. So he’s not exactly new to the big stages or to the organization itself.

C9’s Next Tournaments

C9 will be severely tested in the months ahead. They failed to qualify for the Esports World Cup and will need to compete in S-tier tournaments like BLAST Premier Fall Groups, as well as plenty of qualifiers.

At this point, they do not represent a great force in CS2, which means that every tournament organizer will need to treat them like any other aspiring team. If they don’t succeed in qualifiers, they will not be offered opportunities to play against the world’s best competitors.

Boombl4 has a tough job right now but it wouldn’t be the first time when he gets out of a really bad situation. At one point, his career looked over but he returned and proved his worth. Let’s not forget that this player won a CS2 Major while being Natus Vincere’s IGL. That alone should make people respect him and believe in his talent.
