The field for The International 2026 is now complete. After the regional qualifiers wrapped up, all 16 Dota 2 teams heading to Shanghai have been confirmed. The biggest Dota 2 event of the year will run in August, with the final stage taking place at the SPD Bank Oriental Sports Center and the Aegis of Champions on the line.

The International Returns to Shanghai

Shanghai will host The International again in 2026, bringing Dota 2’s most prestigious tournament back to China. The event begins on August 13, while the arena stage is scheduled for August 20 to 23.

The setting alone gives this year’s tournament a strong storyline. Chinese Dota has multiple representatives in the field, including direct invite Xtreme Gaming and qualifier teams Team Resilience and Vici Gaming. With the main stage in Shanghai, every Chinese team will likely feel the pressure and energy of a home crowd.

The confirmed base prize pool is $1.6 million, though The International has historically been shaped by additional in-game revenue and community-driven systems. Even before any further prize pool movement, the event remains the defining tournament of the Dota 2 season.

Seven Teams Received Direct Invites

Valve handed out seven direct invitations this year. These teams did not have to fight through the regional qualifiers and could start preparing for Shanghai earlier than the rest of the field.

Team Falcons enter as one of the obvious favorites. Team Liquid and Tundra Esports bring deep international experience, while Xtreme Gaming will carry major expectations from the Chinese crowd.

Europe Survives a Brutal Qualifier

The European qualifier was one of the toughest routes to Shanghai. With Western and Eastern Europe combined into a single qualification race, several strong teams had to fight for only four available slots.

OG, GamerLegion and LGD Round Out the Field

The remaining regional slots went to OG from Southeast Asia, GamerLegion from North America and LGD Gaming from South America.

OG’s qualification is especially notable because the organization returns to The International under a very different identity than during its legendary championship years. The name still carries huge weight, but this version of OG arrives with something to prove.

GamerLegion will represent North America as the region’s lone team, while LGD Gaming comes through South America. Both teams enter with limited margin for error, but that also makes them dangerous. In a tournament like TI, qualifier teams often arrive with less pressure than the biggest favorites.
